Melissa Etheridge's son Beckett Cypher has died on the age of 21 following a battle with opioid habit.

In an announcement launched on Wednesday night, the singer revealed her coronary heart is damaged however she'll use music to heal.

"Right now I joined the tons of of hundreds of households who've misplaced family members to opioid habit," Melissa wrote. "My son Beckett, who was simply 21, struggled to beat his habit and at last succumbed to it right now.

"He will probably be missed by those that beloved him, his household and buddies. My coronary heart is damaged. I'm grateful for many who have reached out with condolences and I really feel their love and honest grief.

Beckett was the 58-year-old's son from her romance with Julie Cypher. He and his older sister Bailey have been the organic kids of rocker David Crosby, who helped Melissa and Julie realise their goals of turning into mother and father.

David responded to information of Beckett's dying on Twitter on Wednesday, as he replied to a tweet from a person which alleged he "performed no different half" within the teenager's life apart from being a sperm donor.

"Not true," he responded.

Melissa can also be mum to 13-year-old twins, Miller and Johnnie, from her relationship with Tammy Lynn Michaels.
